Not great for

Privacy-sensitive calls: the Notetaker bot visibly joins meetings, Otter trains on de-identified recordings without a clear opt-out, and a wiretap class action is pending.

Otter.ai records and transcribes meetings live, then writes a summary and lets you ask questions across your past meetings. Its Notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls as a visible participant; its desktop app on Mac and Windows can record without a bot.

It suits teams that want searchable records of every meeting. The free plan includes 300 transcription minutes a month; Pro is $16.99 a month billed monthly, or $8.33 billed yearly.

Two things to weigh. Otter’s privacy policy says it trains on de-identified audio and on transcripts, with no dedicated opt-out. And a class action alleging Otter recorded people without proper consent was allowed to proceed in August 2026; no court has found Otter liable. For sensitive calls, a tool that records on your own device may be a better fit.
