Strategy
The IndiaAI Mission (approved Mar 2024, ₹10,371.92 crore over five years) runs seven pillars from compute to skills. The India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi (Feb 2026) closed with a declaration endorsed by 92 countries and organisations.
Regulation
No AI law. The India AI Governance Guidelines (Nov 2025) are non-binding. The IT Amendment Rules 2026, in force since 20 Feb 2026, require AI-generated content to be labelled and deepfakes removed within 2 hours. DPDP Rules are phasing in over 18 months.
Compute
38,000+ GPUs in the subsidised national pool (Mar 2026), 20,000 more pledged, 100,000 targeted. Chip packaging plants are running; Tata’s Dholera fab is still under construction (EE Times).
Key labs
12 foundation-model groups are funded under IndiaAI (PIB), including Sarvam AI, BharatGen (IIT Bombay), Soket AI, Gnani.ai, Fractal and Tech Mahindra.
