UK puts £300m of dedicated military AI funding in place to 2030, with nothing fixed after

UK defence minister Luke Pollard said in written answers to Parliament that dedicated military AI funding is £300m for the four years from 2026-27 to 2029-30, according to the UK Defence Journal.

The reported breakdown is £100m for the Rapid AI Delivery Taskforce, £100m for Programme FRONTIER and other enablers, £80m for AI in land command and control, and £20m for AI in underwater surveillance. Pollard said AI is also built into larger programmes such as the Digital Targeting Web.

He said funding for the Defence AI Centre between 2030 and 2035 is not yet confirmed.

Why it matters: it is the first itemised figure for UK military AI spending, and it shows no ring-fenced AI money beyond 2030.
