Thales launches HexaForce, an AI command system pitched to NATO as a European option

Industry

French defence group Thales has launched HexaForce, an AI-assisted command and control system that covers land, air, sea, cyber, space and the electromagnetic spectrum. It was tested at NATO’s CWIX exercise in June.

Thales says live trials aim to raise the number of targets a headquarters can process from 100 to 1,000 a day. That is a target the company set, not a measured result.

Defense News reported on 25 September that Thales is in advanced talks with several NATO countries, and that a first version has already been delivered to the French Army. NATO currently uses Palantir’s Maven Smart System, and France and Germany have pledged to back a European alternative.

Why it matters: it is a concrete European bid to supply the AI command software that NATO now buys from a US firm.
