Singapore’s central bank sets AI risk rules for financial firms, effective October 2027

Industry

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) issued Guidelines on AI Risk Management for financial institutions on 7 October, after consulting the industry in November 2025.

Firms must have board oversight with clear accountability, manage risk across the whole life of an AI system, and control risks from AI bought from third parties. The first sections take effect on 7 October 2027 and the rest by 7 October 2028.

MAS plans to consult on further guidance for agentic AI in 2027.

Why it matters: financial firms in a major hub now have firm deadlines for AI governance.
