Paying Claude subscribers in the US can now connect their bank and credit card accounts and ask the chatbot questions about their own money. Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in beta on 5 November for its Pro, Max and Ultra plans.
Accounts are linked through Plaid, a service that connects apps to banks, so Claude never receives a bank password. Once linked, Claude can see bank and account names, account types, the last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions. It can total spending by category, compare months, flag possible duplicate charges or rising bills, and explain terms such as APR.
Anthropic says access is read-only: the tool cannot move, manage or invest money, and is not designed to give investment advice. It says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models, while chats elsewhere follow each user’s privacy settings.
Why it matters: chatbots are moving from general advice to working with people’s real financial records, and OpenAI added similar tools to ChatGPT in May. The trade-off is handing a detailed spending history to an AI company, and Anthropic itself warns that Claude can make mistakes, so important figures should be checked with the bank.
