YouTube Music labels songs as fully, partly or not made with generative AI

Industry

YouTube Music began showing labels on 14 October that say whether a song was fully, partly or not made with generative AI, TechCrunch reported. Music partners choose the label, and YouTube also uses its own detection tools.

Pitch-correction tools such as Auto-Tune count as no generative AI. Using AI does not by itself stop a track being monetised. The labels will extend to the main YouTube app.

Why it matters: the biggest video and music platform has chosen disclosure over bans, unlike some streaming rivals.
