German online retailer Otto has launched a ChatGPT plugin that gives product advice across more than 19 million items, retail-news.de reported on 20 October. Users type @OTTO in ChatGPT to use it.
Purchases are still completed in Otto’s own online shop, not inside ChatGPT. Otto is also one of the first European companies testing ChatGPT ads, and calls early results promising without giving figures.
Why it matters: a large European retailer is putting its catalogue inside a chatbot while keeping control of checkout.
