Flexport opens freight booking to outside AI agents with a new MCP server

Industry

Freight forwarder Flexport launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server on 29 September. MCP is a standard way for AI agents to connect to outside software. Through it, shippers’ AI agents can track shipments, flag customs holds, search rates and book freight without logging in.

Flexport says its own AI agents already handle 21 million tasks a year and that every exception goes to a human. A new tool suggests customs codes through a chat, and users can have a licensed Flexport broker check a code before it is filed. These figures are the company’s own.

Why it matters: a large forwarder is treating customers’ AI agents as users that can book freight directly, an early real case of agentic commerce in logistics.
