OpenAI and Google Cloud said on 21 October that OpenAI’s frontier models and its Codex agentic coding workflows will be offered in Google Cloud’s Model Garden, the catalogue where Google’s business customers choose AI models to build with. General availability is planned “in the coming weeks”, and companies can request access now. OpenAI did not name specific model versions.
Customers will buy through Google Cloud Marketplace, and businesses that have already committed to spend a set amount on Google Cloud can count these purchases against that commitment. OpenAI says its models will also “soon” reach Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent. The announcement states that Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.
Why it matters: for large companies, where a model is sold can matter as much as how good it is, because procurement rules, data governance and pre-paid cloud budgets often decide what gets used. Placing OpenAI’s models inside Google’s own marketplace, alongside Google’s Gemini models, makes them easier to adopt for organisations that run on Google Cloud, and shows Google is willing to host a leading rival. Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian said the company is “focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI”.
