President Trump announced on Sunday 4 October, in a post on Truth Social, that he is forming a “Super Intelligence Force”, or SIF. The post says it is “tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence”. It follows the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, signed last month by several large technology companies.
The rest of what is circulating comes from press reporting. CBS News and others name the director of national intelligence, Jay Clayton, as chair, with the FTC chairman Andrew Ferguson, the under secretary of war for research and engineering Emil Michael and the Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor as co-leads. Several outlets also report a 120 day deadline for a report on the technology’s risks and opportunities.
None of that is yet verifiable from the government itself. At the time of writing the White House presidential actions page carries nothing about the SIF: no executive order, charter or membership list to read. The one related document is the order of 29 September instructing agencies to write “Super Intelligence” in place of “artificial intelligence”.
Why it matters: a coordinating body with no published charter is hard to hold to anything. Worth watching: whether a charter appears, and what the report must cover.
